Imagine we could bring a billion traumatised humans back to life

Let us heal trauma where it resides – in the body

What is
Body Voices?

A safe space for survivors of sexual violence to get in touch with healing, reclaim their voice and experience community.

In the workshops and courses, participants learn what was triggered in their "system" by traumatic experiences. What exactly happens in the brain and body, and why does it have such power over you? Building on these modules for more mental strength, you can use the body-focused therapy methods to learn how to free yourself from recurring patterns and negative thoughts and find more joy, freedom and peace in your life. Alongside Eva Michielin, artist and initiator of Body Voices, we create art as a group or one-on-one. In this way, you create something for yourself and the community.

"Those were the three best days of my life."

POSSIBLE WORKSHOP METHODS
Breathing work

With the help of specific breathing techniques it is possible to reach long blocked emotions and to resolve them. The aim of this work is to conciliate with life which brings feelings of freedom, love and relaxation with it. By using intensive breath work the body gets activated down to the cellular level and releasing processes are initiated.

Singing & toning work

The subtle vibration of our voice is a key to the hidden doors of our body which are often buried by traumatic situations. Using trauma therapeutical elements using our voice in many different ways we carefully and smoothly open those rooms again. The energy of the group is an important factor in this work, impressively showing the strengths of the energy of groups.

Movement & dancing work

Carefully we approach the possibilities of expressing ourselves through our body, this unexpected variety beyond the spoken language. This work is about experimenting and finding totally new aspects of our own personality by using music as the catalysator. In this inspiring group work we can learn who we are and who we can be.

Clay field work

Communicating without talking – touching without feeling anxiety. This is what clay therapy is about. By touching the clay a subtle and soft opening, de-cramping, relaxation or relief within the body takes place. This is often perceived as extremely pleasant and comfortable. It feels like something gets in a kind of flow: this is called the body shift.

Womb & belly work

Almost everything we need for a happy life is to be found in the belly, in our digestion tract. Our life energy there decides over the quality of our life. Womb work with massage and caressing techniques or by accessing unconscious information through meditation supports the individual to find the body’s own sources, a wonderful feeling of flow.

Meditation

Regular meditation helps us to better regulate our emotions, which in turn reduces the harmful effects of stress hormones on our immune system. In this way meditation is able to positively influence inflammatory diseases, the body's defences and even cell ageing. It helps lightning up the mood and feeling more freedom and peace in ones body.

Restorative yoga

Restorative Yoga gives special importance to relaxation postures in which the body is fully supported and at rest. Through the use of props, such as cushions, straps and blocks, stability and alignment is achieved in all asanas (yoga postures), regardless of age or physical condition. In these sessions, as the relaxation postures are deepened, emphasis is placed on cultivating awareness in the belly, chest and hip area, where there may be “trapped” emotions. In the asanas, practitioners can effortlessly surrender to the support of the Earth, which sustains and relaxes the body and mind, helping them to be more in the present moment.

Art work

During the workshops Eva interacts with the participants by creating a huge piece with all of them together. Every woman spends time with Eva on the sixteen squaremeter sized canvas and leaves her personal traces there. In Tübingen each participant was offered to create her own inner of a lily flower. Sometimes they speak, sometimes they cry, often it is just a strong feeling of belonging, connection and togetherness.

Demand-oriented

As trauma and healing processes are influenced by culture, we adapt the portfolio of workshops depending on the location. To best support the participants, we search for the most experienced therapists and cooperate with local organisations to compose the workshops accordingly.

Our vision of healing via the body

Trauma sits in the body, in every single cell. If we want to overcome our traumas we need to work with the body.

The part of the brain storing trauma cannot be reached via language. That’s why speaking therapy is always useful to understand what happened and happens to us, and needs to be accompanied by body-oriented trauma-releasing and healing ways of working if we want to integrate trauma and overcome it.

Eva's half-sister today says two things about Eva as a child: firstly, she was obsessed with colours, painting and nature. Secondly, she had an extreme sense of justice and was prepared to fight for it.
